UNESCO Cairo strengthens collaboration for the Safeguarding of Living Heritage in Sudan

In the framework of the Safeguarding Sudan’s Living Heritage (SSLH) project, UNESCO Cairo Office and Khartoum Office, in partnership with the British Council, joined forces to hold the Expert Meeting on Living Heritage and Emergencies: Planning the Response for Safeguarding Living Heritage in Sudan at the Child Museum in Heliopolis in Egypt from 10 to 13 September 2023.

Co-organized by the UNESCO Living Heritage Entity and the Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe based in Sofia, Bulgaria, the meeting took place on September 5 and 6, 2023, at the Small Basilica in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The Roman Small Basilica of Philippopolis with its Roman mosaics dating back to the 5th century AD offered a very nice historic and festive backdrop to the meeting.

During the two-day Global Meeting held in Seoul, on 25 and 26 July 2023, for the 20th anniversary of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage under the theme “Unleashing the power of living heritage for sustainable development and peace”, leading thinkers, policymakers, civil society actors, experts, and community representatives from across the world discussed the challenges facing the world and the extraordinary power of living heritage in responding to them.

World Children’s Festival for Intangible Cultural Heritage

The 2023 World Children’s Festival for Intangible Cultural Heritage is approaching. It will be a comprehensive festival, including performances, exhibitions, and hands-on experience opportunities on global intangible cultural heritage (ICH) for children. The festival will also bring ICH close to the families, especially targeting children as the future ICH-safeguarding generations.
New publication on community inventorying Living Heritage in Egypt
