UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia, in collaboration with multiple Category 2 Centres under the auspices of UNESCO in the Asia and the Pacific region, invites the relevant stakeholders concerning UNESCO Designated Sites – including World Heritage properties, Biosphere Reserves, and UNESCO Global Geoparks – as well as other designated cultural and natural heritage sites at national- and sub-national levels, to submit innovative case studies that demonstrate a holistic approach to heritage management.

Sierra Leone is becoming the 185th State to join the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, having deposited its instrument of ratification with UNESCO on 19 June 2025.
Respecting Diversity, Cultivating Curiosity - Insights from Cases on ICH Safeguarding & Sustainable Development

Editor's Note: Organized by CRIHAP with ICHCAP and IRCI, the Release Ceremony of Selected Cases on ICH Safeguarding for Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific Region 2024 was held in Beijing on November 26. Deirdré Prins-Solani, an expert on intangible cultural heritage from UNESCO, shared her insights on the selected cases. Through the lens of personal experiences, Prins-Solani stressed the relevance of intangible cultural heritage in addressing global challenges. She highlighted that respecting and integrating cultural diversity is key to advancing sustainable development, calling for supporting community-based ICH transmission by engaging with local communities, cultivating curiosity, and promoting policy change and cross-sector collaboration. International conference “New Frontiers of Research for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage” to take place in Osaka, Japan from February 13–15

The Asia-Pacific Research Forum for ICH Safeguarding, a platform for research promotion and cooperation established in 2022 by the International Research Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region (IRCI), is organizing its first international conference, ‘New Frontiers of Research for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage’ at the National Museum of Ethnology in Osaka, Japan, on February 13–15, 2025. The conference is co-organized by the National Museum of Ethnology and sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan.
