Countries of Central America and the Caribbean come together to safeguard their Afro-descendant living heritage

Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic, all States Parties to the 2003 Convention, are the eight member States of the Central American Integration System(SICA). Together with Cuba, they have agreed during a recent meeting of the Council of Ministers of Culture and Education of the SICA Educational and Cultural Coordination (CECC/SICA) to implement a safeguarding strategy for the cultural heritage of Afro-descendant communities.

ichLinks, an ICH information-sharing platform in the Asia-Pacific region, will provide a series of newly curated contents. There will be a total of eight new contents in 2022 including two on ICH Journey, three on Online Exhibition, two on ICH Story, and one on ICH VR.

New publication coordinated by UNESCO Office in Montevideo on living heritage and social inclusion

A new publication emphasizing the strong links between intangible cultural heritage and social inclusion in Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) is being launched. Coordinated by the UNESCO Office in Montevideo, the publication features case studies of activities, projects and programmes implemented by communities, governments and various stakeholders from seven countries in LAC that exemplify the role that living heritage can play as a driver for social inclusion.

The Gambia reaffirms its commitment to safeguard its living heritage

This voluntary contribution by France to the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Fund will allow for in-depth training of stakeholders involved in safeguarding ICH, in collaboration with the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC) of the Gambian Ministry of Tourism and Culture, and with the UNESCO office in Dakar. This event is the result of several months of sensitization, planning and mobilization, marked by the context of the pandemic.
