Sierra Leone is becoming the 185th State to join the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, having deposited its instrument of ratification with UNESCO on 19 June 2025.

Editor's Note: Organized by CRIHAP with ICHCAP and IRCI, the Release Ceremony of Selected Cases on ICH Safeguarding for Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific Region 2024 was held in Beijing on November 26. Deirdré Prins-Solani, an expert on intangible cultural heritage from UNESCO, shared her insights on the selected cases. Through the lens of personal experiences, Prins-Solani stressed the relevance of intangible cultural heritage in addressing global challenges. She highlighted that respecting and integrating cultural diversity is key to advancing sustainable development, calling for supporting community-based ICH transmission by engaging with local communities, cultivating curiosity, and promoting policy change and cross-sector collaboration. International conference “New Frontiers of Research for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage” to take place in Osaka, Japan from February 13–15

The Asia-Pacific Research Forum for ICH Safeguarding, a platform for research promotion and cooperation established in 2022 by the International Research Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region (IRCI), is organizing its first international conference, ‘New Frontiers of Research for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage’ at the National Museum of Ethnology in Osaka, Japan, on February 13–15, 2025. The conference is co-organized by the National Museum of Ethnology and sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan.

The UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, meeting in Asunción (Paraguay) from 2 to 6 December, inscribed 63 new elements on the Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage, at the initiative of 90 countries.
