Field Research: Cultural heritage in Chaozhou
★ Chaozhou Opera
Chaoyin Opera or Chaozhou Play is one of the most famous operas of China. It is popular in East Guangdong, South Fujian and Southeast Asia. In the long history of its development, Chaozhou Opera incorporates the essence of local folk art, which enriched its artistic contents and forms, and helped it become a special style. It was selected in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage in 2006.
★ Chaozhou embroidery

Chaozhou embroidery originated in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), with figures, animals and flowers as its major themes. It was selected in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage in 2006.

In late Qing Dynasty (1636-1912), artisans in Chaozhou created Chaozhou decorative porcelain by combining traditional porcelain decoration techniques with Chinese painting skills. It was selected in the third batch of intangible cultural heritage of Guangdong province in 2009.
★ Chaozhou big gong and drum
With a history of over 300 years, the Chaozhou big gong and drum is a popular musical instrument. It combines percussion, orchestral and string music. It was selected in the third batch of intangible cultural heritage of Chaozhou in 2009.
