The four-day workshop was led by UNESCO-accredited facilitator Nandadeva Bilinda Devage and local Sri Lankan expert Udaya Cabral. The sessions focused on the relevant content of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and on methodologies for collaborating with communities in the inventorying process.

A key component of the training involved group field visits to local communities. These visits provided participants with practical experience in inventorying ICH elements specific to the Southern Province, such as the fishing techniques of stilt fishermen, traditional wood carving methods, and pottery-making skills. During these visits, participants engaged in discussions with community members about the origins and cultural significance of these elements, their contribution to livelihoods and income generation, and the challenges they face in their continued transmission.
