The Capacity Building Workshop on Teaching and Learning with East Asian ICH (Session 2) opens in Jintan district, Changzhou city
The Capacity Building Workshop on Teaching and Learning with East Asian Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH), Session 2, organized by the International Training Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region under the auspices of UNESCO (CRIHAP) and the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia, commenced on October 28, 2025, in Jintan district, Changzhou city, Jiangsu province.
Dr. Duong Bich Hanh, Head of the Culture Sector at the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia, and over 30 lecturers and teachers from China, Japan, ROK and Mongolia participated in the workshop.
During the opening ceremony, Dr. Duong Bich Hanh outlined the workshop's initiative and objectives, emphasizing its significance for UNESCO's efforts in promoting ICH education in East Asia. She encouraged active exchange and discussion among participants. From the perspective of its purposes and scope of responsibilities, CRIHAP briefly shared its practices and explorations in capacity-building training for integrating ICH and Education in recent years. It also expressed its commitment to fostering platforms for exchange and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, thereby contributing further to ICH safeguarding.
Over the four-day workshop, UNESCO facilitators Linina Puttitarn and Vanessa Achilles will focus on integrating intangible cultural heritage into teaching and learning. They will guide participants in sharing lesson experiences and plans, and exploring effective integration strategies. Participants will also conduct a field visit on Jintan Paper Cutting—a national-level representative intangible cultural heritage element— through educational activities at the Jintan Paper Cutting Art Center and Hohai University.
