CRIHAP attends the fourteenth annual coordination meeting of UNESCO Category 2 Centres active in the field of intangible cultural heritage

On June 19, 2026, the fourteenth annual coordination meeting of UNESCO Category 2 Centres focused on intangible cultural heritage was held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. A delegation from CRIHAP participated in the meeting.

The meeting occurred at a pivotal moment as the transition to a unified global submission mechanism for periodic reporting under the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (the 2003 Convention) was underway. Mr. Nayef Al-Fayez, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture, attended and delivered the opening remarks.

The Secretariat of the 2003 Convention provided an update on the renewal status of Category 2 Centre agreements and recent developments under the Convention, particularly progress toward the unified global submission mechanism. Representatives from eight Category 2 Centres worldwide shared their strategies and methods for supporting capacity-building for periodic reporting to States Parties in the new reporting cycle and engaged in comprehensive discussions on future collaboration.

CRIHAP presented its recent activities and workplan for supporting capacity-building for periodic reporting and expressed its commitment to enhancing coordination and cooperation with other Category 2 Centres to provide robust support for the successful implementation of the new reporting cycle.

On June 17 and 18, the CRIHAP delegation attended the eleventh session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the Convention upon invitation.
