2025 (5th) Hainan Brocade and Embroidery World Culture Week successfully held in Haikou
On the first day of the Culture Week, the “Splendid World – Co-Create the Future: Seminar on the Safeguarding, Transmission, and Development of Textile-related Intangible Cultural Heritage” brought together ICH experts and bearers from seven countries, including China, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Romania, and Slovenia. The experience sharing centered on textile-related ICH elements inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, such as Traditional Li Textile Techniques, Indonesian Batik, Traditional Art of Jamdani Weaving, and Songket, exploring practical pathways for living heritage transmission and innovative development. Liu Cheng, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports of Hainan Province, and Professor Shahbaz Khan, Director of UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia, addressed the opening session.
The Culture Week also showcased the charm of ICH through diverse forms. The "ICH Night" featured performances of Hainan’s local heritage, such as rattan and bamboo weaving and nose flute playing. The opening ceremony and ICH-themed fashion show presented exquisite works, including Nanjing Yunjin brocade and Li brocade, while an ICH fashion flash mob and discussions on ICH branding demonstrated the innovative integration of traditional craftsmanship into contemporary fashion design.
