Shahbaz Khan, Director of the UNESCO Beijing Office, delivers a speech via pre-recorded video.

At the opening session, Shahbaz Khan pointed out in his speech that young people are a bridge between the past and the future, and an important force in practicing and transmitting cultural practices and knowledge; they are a priority group for UNESCO and the focus of the global capacity-building program within the framework of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003 Convention).

Shahbaz Khan also hoped that the participants would be able to fully discuss the opportunities and challenges faced by young people in safeguarding intangible cultural heritage through this training, raise their awareness of safeguarding intangible heritage, and acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for it. He expected the participants from different countries to strengthen their exchanges and continue cooperating after the training.
