Susanne Schnuttgen, head of UNESCO’s Capacity Building and Heritage Policy Unit, Living Heritage Entity, gave a brief introduction to the current state and recent development of UNESCO’s global capacity building strategy.

In 2009, UNESCO initiated the Global Capacity Building Strategy and constructed a Global Network of Facilitators, offering instructions and services for regional capacity building activities. Over the last decade, UNESCO has staged nonscheduled workshops for the training of trainers to spread information about the recent development of and relevant policies about the Convention. It has also kept including local experts in the ICH safeguarding field from different regions in its team of facilitators to strengthen UNESCO’s global training capabilities. By February of 2023, CRIHAP has organized a total of 12 workshops for the training of trainers at regional, sub-regional and national levels, providing strong support for UNESCO’s efforts to build the Global Network of Facilitators.

To date, CRIHAP has organized a total of 66 ICH capacity-building workshops covering 41 countries and regions, with 2,447 direct beneficiaries from the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
