XR Training Program for Safeguarding Cultural Heritage

ICHCAP held the ‘2022 ASEAN-Korea XR Training Program’ in collaboration with the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency and Tourism Promotion Organization for Asia Pacific Cities.

The training program, which was held from 28 November to 2 December at the ASEAN-Korea ICT Convergence Village in Busan, was attended by 19 people, including officials and researchers from the ICT, cultural heritage, and tourism sectors of four ASEAN countries (Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Cambodia) and Nepal.

The training program is designed to draw up cooperative projects using eXtended Reality (XR) technology under the themes of cultural heritage and tourism. Throughout the program, ▲XR and metaverse theory education, ▲Introduction on cases where domestic XR and metaverse are being used in the cultural heritage and tourism fields, and examples of technology-industry convergence, ▲Tour of major domestic facilities and companies, ▲Preparation of cooperation project proposals and expert mentoring were being held.

Mr. Jisung Kim, Director-General of ICHCAP expressed his anticipation by saying, “Amid the accelerated digital transformation after the corona pandemic, convergent attempts to combine digital technologies such as XR and metaverse with cultural heritage are being emphasized. With this training program, opportunities for future generations to take an interest in and participate in safeguarding cultural heritage will expand.”

The cooperative project proposal derived through the training program will be reviewed by experts and promoted as the ASEAN-Korea XR Joint Project next year by the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency.
