Capacity-building Workshop on ICH and Sustainable Development for Bangladesh held online

CRIHAP’s Director-General Liang Bin delivers an opening speech for the ICH workshop for Bangladesh.

 

Liang Bin said that Bangladesh has always been a priority for CRIHAP. By organizing four capacity-building workshops, CRIHAP has fulfilled its commitment to push forward Bangladesh’s ICH safeguarding, yielding positive results. “Making the best of successful training experiences, CRIHAP will continue to play an active role in holding capacity-building workshops for countries in the Asia-Pacific region during the coming years,” he added.

 

UNESCO-accredited ICH facilitators Noriko Aikawa and Alexandra Denes give online lectures on ICH safeguarding to the Bangladeshi trainees.

 

This year is the fourth consecutive year that CRIHAP has organized capacity-building workshops for Bangladesh to deepen participants’ understanding of the Convention and keep them updated on the latest development in ICH safeguarding from a global perspective. Doing so in turn strengthens the overall ability of ICH safeguarding at national level.

 

Working together in groups, the Bangladeshi trainees participate in online exercises and discussions cantering on their video recordings about local ICH elements.

 

During the three-day workshop, UNESCO-accredited ICH facilitators Noriko Aikawa and Alexandra Denes were invited to give lectures to the trainees. Through online classes, case studies and group exercises, they guided participants in brushing up on their knowledge of ICH safeguarding and sustainable development.

CRIHAP has combined online training with field work to make the workshop as effective and productive as possible. Prior to the online classes, a portion of the participants conducted field investigations in five local communities around Dhaka, observing and videotaping several ICH elements, including traditional craftsmanship, performing arts, and rituals.
