From 23 to 27 August, the city of León in Nicaragua hosted a capacity-building workshop on inventories methods of intangible cultural heritage. It was held with the assistance of UNESCO’s Participation Programme, which is designed to provide direct assistance to initiatives undertaken by Member States with proposals submitted via UNESCO National Commissions.

This workshop will strengthen the technical knowledge for inventorying intangible heritage for key actors in various regions throughout Nicaragua, facilitating the safeguarding of living heritage on a local level. Furthermore, inventorying methodology will focus on local specificities and community participation. The Living Heritage Entity is also pleased to witness the involvement of such a wide spectrum of stakeholders. Participants indeed included representatives of local governments and community bearers, as well as representatives of the Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Nicaraguan Institute of Culture, and the Nicaraguan National Commission for UNESCO.

This workshop is an essential step in successfully safeguarding the great diversity of living cultural expressions that exist in Nicaragua.
