A webinar on ‘Teaching and learning with living heritage’ will allow European teachers and students to share their experience on 29 June 2021 from 3 to 5 p.m. (Paris time).

This event concludes the project ‘Engaging Youth for an Inclusive and Sustainable Europe’ implemented jointly by UNESCO and the European Union. It aimed to raise awareness about the benefits and challenges of teaching and learning with living heritage in primary and secondary schools .

With the overarching objective of strengthening connections between young people, cultural heritage and education , this project proposed an innovative approach to education and invited teachers and learners to explore their living heritage and integrate it into core school subjects. To take stock of the current situation and challenges, a survey was carried out in 2019 among 2000 primary and secondary schools of the UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet). The survey results highlighted the need to elaborate practical guidance materials and resources. UNESCO selected 10 pilot projects proposed by ASPnet school teams to develop pedagogical materials and offer concrete training activities under the guidance of UNESCO-trained facilitators.
