Working Group Session for “Study of Emergency Protection of ICH in Conflict-Affected Countries in Asia”

A Working Group Session for Afghanistan was held from 10 to 13 March at Kuroda Memorial Hall in the Tokyo National Museum, inviting an Afghan government official and experts from Bamiyan University.

Since 2017, IRCI has been working on a project “Study of Emergency Protection of ICH in Conflict-Affected Countries in Asia” in certain countries including Afghanistan. Focused on the endangered traditional craft techniques in Balkh province and traditional women’s rituals and dances in Bamiyan province, small-scale field and desk surveys have been conducted where safety is ensured under the unrest condition in Afghanistan. In the Working Group Session, outcomes of the small-scale surveys in 2019 were shared, and the future research plan was discussed.
