In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, a planned training workshop was held online during the first week of May 2020, and attended by participants from the heritage department of the Ministry of Culture. Organized within the project “Strengthening national capacities for safeguarding Palestinian intangible cultural heritage”, the workshop focused on the preparation of nomination files for the lists of the 2003 Convention, and requests for international assistance from the Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund.
Currently implemented with the support of the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, this project aims to support Palestine in its efforts to safeguard its living heritage, and strengthen policies and institutional capacities in this field. Within the framework of the project, the UNESCO Office in Ramallah has already held two training workshops on implementation of the Convention and community-based inventorying in November and December 2019.
In parallel, the UNESCO Office in Ramallah continues to support the Ministry of Culture of Palestine with the development of the Palestinian Intangible Cultural Heritage Law as a part of the project.
