A wrap-up workshop of the project “Community-based inventorying of intangible cultural heritage” was organized last July in Kingston, Jamaica five months after its launching.
Since March, members from three communities of Kingston were invited to join capacity building workshops on community-based inventorying and conduct inventorying of their living heritage. This project is part of the UNESCO initiative Intangible Heritage and Sustainable Cities aiming to promote the role that living heritage and creativity can play in building sustainable cities.
The UNESCO Cluster Office for the English and Dutch Caribbean coordinated the project in collaboration with the African Caribbean Institute of Jamaica/Jamaica Memory Bank. George Town (Malaysia) and Harare (Zimbabwe) also joined as pilot cities for the first phase of the project.
