ICHCAP will host the ‘APHEN-ICH Intangible Cultural Heritage Field School’ in cooperation with Korea National University of Cultural Heritage(KNUCH) from 16 to 23 August 2019 in Buyeo, Republic of Korea. Organized as an inclusive training ground for experts and students in the field of ICH to promote academic exchange, the field school will provide an intensive, one-week course offering a combination of lectures, workshops, and field visits to museums and communities. Lectures will revolve around subjects such as the UNESCO 2003 Convention, UNESCO’s Digital Heritage Preservation Initiative, ICH and Gender, ICH research methodologies, ICH Safeguarding Policies in Korea, and so forth.

Invited participants are affiliated with APHEN-ICH (Asia Pacific Higher Education Network for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage) member universities. Through the field school, they will develop a holistic approach in understanding the relevance of ICH to different academic disciplines and topics.

APHEN-ICH was established in September 2018 in cooperation with ICHCAP and UNESCO. In keeping with the spirit of 2003 UNESCO Convention, the Network aims to foster and strengthen capacity for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage in the Asia-Pacific through collaborative educational programs and activities. As of 2019, there are 17 member universities.

ICHCAP will continue to cooperate with the APHEN-ICH member universities to promote sustainable exchange and strengthen research capacity through academic conferences, curriculum development, and joint research projects.
