International Council for Traditional Music Conference to be Held in Bangkok

The forty-fifth International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM) World Conference 2019 will be held from 11 to 17 July 2019 at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. This is the first time that the ICTM’s World Conference will come to Thailand and Southeast Asia. The conference is co-hosted by the faculty of Fine and Applied Arts and the Office of Art and Culture at Chulalongkorn University in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Thailand.
The ICTM, a non-governmental organization in formal consultative relations with UNESCO, is a scholarly organization that aims to further the study, practice, documentation, preservation, and dissemination of traditional music and dance of all countries.
Activities in this conference include academic presentations, international music and dance workshops, concerts, exhibitions, and excursions. In the opening event of the conference, Dr. Jarernchai Chonpairot (from Mahasarakham University, Talat, Thailand) as a keynote speaker, will address his presentation on “Transborder Theories and Paradigms in Ethnomusicological Studies of Folk Music.” During the three-day conference, six themes relevant to traditional music will be covered by various presentations; they include those listed below.
