First training workshop on safeguarding living heritage targeting youth organized in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan - First training workshop for young people interested in safeguarding their living heritage is being organized from 9 to 13 April in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, by the National Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic for UNESCO, the International Training Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region under the auspices of UNESCO (CRIHAP) and the UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office.

Following a call for participation distributed via social media, 30 young women and men from all seven provinces of Kyrgyzstan were invited to participate in this five-day workshop. They will learn more about the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and its key concepts, but also discuss the opportunities and challenges that young people encounter when engaging in safeguarding their living heritage. The objective of the workshop is to raise awareness on the importance of intangible cultural heritage safeguarding among young men and women and equip them with knowledge and skills needed for engaging in effective safeguarding.
