China's mesmerizes Cambodia with Fujian puppetry
After the performance, the puppetry performers paid a visit to Siem Reap and took part in the “Workshop on Implementation of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the ICH: Digital Preservation” held by the CRIHAP. During the training, Chinese artists had an in-depth exchange with the Cambodian counterparts to share the valuable experience in traditional art with each other. The Strategy for training coming generations of Fujian puppetry practitioners was inscribed in Register of Best Safeguarding Practices by the UNESCO in 2012.
As an international organization in the field of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) co-established by the Chinese government and UNESCO, the CRIHAP shoulders the responsibility of promoting the spirit of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 48 countries and regions in the Asia-Pacific as well as implements the strategy of capacity building in safeguarding the ICH by the UNESCO.
“China's Fujian Puppetry in Cambodia” represents the extension and innovation of the international training forms of the CRIHAP. It can not only display and advance Chinese traditional culture, but encourage the cooperation of two countries in intangible cultural heritage, which will extend a positive effect on promoting our cultural exchanges to the outside.
