CRIHAP and the UNESCO Dhaka Office co-organized an online Capacity-building Workshop on Intangible Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Development for Bangladesh from Nov 23-25, 2021.
Shabiha Pervin, Additional Secretary of Bangladeshi Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Beatrice Kaldun, Head of the UNESCO Dhaka Office and Representative to Bangladesh, and CRIHAP’s Director-General Liang Bin delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. The event drew 25 participants from Bangladesh’s cultural departments and research institutions as well as colleges and universities.

Shabiha Pervin said that Bangladesh, as one of the State Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, has always paid great attention to transmitting and safeguarding its cultural heritages. She thanked CRIHAP for its continued support over the years in organizing and holding capacity-building workshops as well as offering strong support for Bangladesh’s overall efforts to safeguard its intangible cultural heritages.

Beatrice Kaldun said intangible cultural heritage is a driving force for sustainable development. Combining ICH safeguarding with sustainable development in the context of the pandemic has long been high on UNESCO’s agenda. She thanked CRIHAP for holding the timely workshop, which allows the participants to gain insights into the latest issues, new challenges and fresh approaches centering on ICH safeguarding.
