The Workshop on Practices of Intangible Cultural Heritage Safeguarding kicked off in Quanzhou, Fujian on June 15. It was hosted by the International Training Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region under the auspices of UNESCO (CRIHAP), the International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region under the auspices of UNESCO (ICHCAP) and the Department of Culture of Fujian province. The workshop concluded on June 17.

Among those at the opening ceremony were Zhang Bing, deputy inspector of the Division of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture; Xu Rong, director-general of CRIHAP; Chen Ji, deputy director of the Department of Culture of Fujian; Kwon HUH, director-general of ICHCAP; Zhou Zhenping, deputy mayor of Quanzhou and Noriko Aikawa, a UNESCO accredited facilitator. More than 100 representatives from UNESCO offices and intangible cultural heritage (ICH) projects in the Asia-Pacific region, and Chinese practitioners in the field of ICH safeguarding participated.

Noriko Aikawa talked about the basics of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage 2003 and Zhang Bing shared the experience of safeguarding ICH in China.
