The Workshop on Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventorying is held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from Sept 22 to 25, 2019.

During the four-day workshop, UNESCO-accredited facilitators Ms. Noriko Aikawa and Ms. Alexandra Denes helped trainees gain a deeper understanding of the Convention and inventory development of ICH through onsite lectures, group discussions and field visits.

Mr. Shi Xuan, a staff member at CRIHAP’s Training Division, introduced UNESCO’s global capacity-building strategy and the working mechanism of the category 2 centre to the trainees and received good feedback. The training also overcame local difficulties and arranged for the trainees to go to the Sonargaon Community around Dhaka for an in-depth study and conduct onsite investigations on local ICH projects of woodcarving, wooden painting and hand weaving.

Since its establishment in 2012 as a UNESCO category 2 centre, CRIHAP has been deeply involved in implementing the UNESCO global capacity-building strategy for the safeguarding of ICH, and is committed to providing capacity-building training services in ICH to 48 member states in the region. This is the 43rd training workshop on ICH capacity-building held by CRIHAP. Up to now, training workshops organized by the Centre have covered 40 countries and regions in Asia-Pacific, with 1,362 direct beneficiaries.
