Field Visit - skills of traditional food (laplap) preparation

In addition, the trainees were divided into two groups to conduct field surveys on skills of traditional food (laplap) preparation and the traditional architecture (nakamal) building skills. Through interviews, observations and other methods, the trainees summarized the current status of the two ICH elements and the threats they face. The trainees also contributed a large number of pictures, audio and video data to the Vanuatu Cultural Centre as an important source of information on the development of the country's ICH inventorying in the future.

This workshop was the eighth capacity building training for the South Pacific since the establishment of CRIHAP in 2012. It has effectively promoted the implementation of UNESCO’s global capacity building strategy for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage.

Field Visit - traditional architecture (nakamal) building skills.

At present, 13 of the 14 small island states in the South Pacific have ratified the Convention. So far, CRIHAP has conducted 30 capacity-building training activities for the Asia-Pacific region under the framework of the Convention, with 31 beneficiary countries and 956 direct beneficiaries.
