Sub-regional training workshop for central Asia facilitators held in Kyrgyzstan

The workshop “Strengthening the Implementation of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Central Asia: a Sub-regional Training Workshop for Facilitators for Central Asia” opens in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek on June 19.

A training workshop for central Asia facilitators was held by CRIHAP in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek from June 19 to 23.

The workshop “Strengthening the Implementation of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Central Asia: a Sub-regional Training Workshop for Facilitators for Central Asia” was jointly hosted by the Intangible Cultural Heritage Section of UNESCO HQs and Kyrgyzstan National Commission for UNESCO.

The workshop was attended and addressed by Mr Liang Bin, Director-General of CRIHAP, Mr Azamat Zhamankulov, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ms Susanne Schnüttgen, head of Capacity Building and Heritage Policy Unit in Secretariat of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in UNESCO HQs, Ms Sabira Soltongeldieva, Secretary-General of Kyrgyz National Commission for UNESCO, and Ms Krista Pikkat, Director of UNESCO Office in Almaty. Nineteen trainees from four central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) took part in the workshop.

The workshop aims to strengthen the ICH safeguarding capacity in central Asia, and developing trainers with capacity to interpret the Convention and safeguarding planning in their own language within this region.
