Dr. Thant Myint-U, Chairman of Yangon Heritage Trust, and his wife along with staff from the China Public Diplomacy Association, visited CRIHAP on the morning of April 11, 2017. Mr. Liang Bin, the Director General of CRIHAP, met with guests with Mr. Zhang Jing, the Deputy Director General of CRIHAP, and two staff members from the Training Division of CRIHAP.

Mr. Liang Bin extended a warm welcome to the guests and his wishes to enhance mutual understanding by taking advantage of the visit. CRIHAP staff presented an introduction of basic information and major activities carried out by CRIHAP in the Asia-Pacific Region.

Dr. Thant Myint-U congratulated CRIHAP on its achievements after watching the presentation. CRIHAP has previously organized 20 workshops covering 27 countries and regions with beneficiaries of over 650 people, and will organize eight capacity-building and training-of-trainers workshops in 2017. He introduced that the Yangon Heritage Trust, as a NGO registered in Myanmar, aims to protect historical and cultural heritage, facilitate sustainable urban plans and promote such ideas to the public through research and training. He hoped that by cooperating with CRIHAP, training such as the community-based workshop on inventory of intangible cultural heritage could be held in Myanmar in order to promote relevant concepts and operations of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage among Myanmese communities and related groups to safeguard and transmit precious spiritual treasures.

Mr. Liang Bin agreed with Dr. Thant Myint-U. He said involvement of communities was a significant part of the Convention, as well as one of the dimensions that CRIHAP would focus on in the workshops. He expected CRIHAP could organize capacity-building workshops in Myanmar with support from the Yangon Heritage Trust.

The Yangon Heritage Trust was founded in 2012, with the major mandate of working with governments and organizations for heritage protection and consultancy of urban plans. It also organizes seminars and activities to promote awareness of safeguarding historical and cultural heritage as well as traditional customs among communities and the public.
