UNESCO renews Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage and Operational Directives
The sixth session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage was convened at UNESCO headquarters on May 30 to June 1.
During the session, the General Assembly debated and adopted renewed articles to the Convention and Operational Directives (from article 170 to 197).
The new article is entitled as “protect intangible cultural heritage and sustainable development on national level”, with contents including “inclusive social development”, “inclusive economic development”, “environment sustainable development”, and “intangible cultural heritage and peace”.
The seventh article of the convention states that the function of the States Parties is to “prepare and submit to the General Assembly for approval Operational Directives for the implementation of this Convention.
The revision on Convention and Operational Directives were approved respectively from the second to the sixth session of the General Assembly of the States Parties.
