The National Cultural Heritage Institute of Angola (INPC), in cooperation with UNESCO, organizes a workshop on community-based inventorying of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The workshop gathers some 25 participants including technical staff from cultural institutions in the country and representatives of the pilot community. Through the workshop the participants will be introduced to methods on how to collect and systemize information so that elements of living heritage to be identified by communities can serve as a basis for safeguarding action. The training will take place from 9 to 19 March in Luanda and includes practical exercises in the community of the Island of Luanda. In the future, the pilot inventory should find replication in other parts of the country under the responsibility of the Angolan national authorities.
This training initiative in Angola is part of a larger project dedicated to the enhancement of national capacity for safeguarding of living heritage in the Portuguese speaking countries in Africa (PALOP). The training will be facilitated by a senior facilitator from Brazil and two experts from Mozambique and Sao Tomé and Principe, who are former project trainees. This training of trainers is one of the concrete results of the project, which contributes to strengthening the regional cooperation among PALOP countries.
This workshop is made possible thanks to the generous contribution from the Government of Norway to the Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund.
